I loved this book！ I am weak for strong female protagonists and the Bridge Kingdom is all for it。 Lara is a strong female that was raised with spy instincts。 Similarly to Aren， the male protagonist， who is all-man and a gentlemen。 The pacing is fast， which gets you hooked from chapter 1。

This was a fantastically paced read with great world building， politics and romance。 The first chapter is so intense and it doesn’t let up。 Lara thinks she knows the truth and is doing what is right but she begins to see things a different way。 I think this is the way that I enjoy morally gray characters - where the character is doing dishonest things but with a “greater good” mentality until they learn of the true evil。 I really enjoyed Lara learning the truth and watching the development of he This was a fantastically paced read with great world building， politics and romance。 The first chapter is so intense and it doesn’t let up。 Lara thinks she knows the truth and is doing what is right but she begins to see things a different way。 I think this is the way that I enjoy morally gray characters - where the character is doing dishonest things but with a “greater good” mentality until they learn of the true evil。 I really enjoyed Lara learning the truth and watching the development of her relationship with Aren。 The author did a great job of describing the Bridge Kingdom and packed so many intense moments of action into the story。 I’m definitely looking forward to getting the rest of the story in The Traitor Queen。 I avoided this book for so long because my steam tolerance is pretty low and I was afraid I would have to do too much skipping to be able to enjoy it but I was surprised。 It was really one scene but I did skip about the last 1/3 of chapter 33 if you’re sensitive to that content the way that I am。 There is some language and general crudeness that I didn’t enjoy but it wasn’t horribly overbearing。Romantic Content: Open door with detail 。。。more

Was really excited for this one。 I really liked the start of this book and the cliffhanger it leaves you on; however， I just didn’t fall in love with the two main character’s love story。 The action was good and I loved how beautiful and dangerous the world was， but the book didn’t grip me the way I expected it to。 Would I continue the series？ Yes。 Are the next two books at the top of my tbr？ No。

It’s really hard to rate this one。 I liked it， but gosh it was sooooooooooooo long！ I thought it would have more spicy scenes since that’s what I’d read from others， but there was ONE scene and it didn’t happen until like 75% ish in。 I’m a bit confused about how the two fell in love when they didn’t really have any real conversations or know each other…The world painted was really interesting and that’s probably the only reason I kept reading。 But at 87% I had to skip ahead because I was ready f It’s really hard to rate this one。 I liked it， but gosh it was sooooooooooooo long！ I thought it would have more spicy scenes since that’s what I’d read from others， but there was ONE scene and it didn’t happen until like 75% ish in。 I’m a bit confused about how the two fell in love when they didn’t really have any real conversations or know each other…The world painted was really interesting and that’s probably the only reason I kept reading。 But at 87% I had to skip ahead because I was ready for it to be over with already。 Only to realize that book two is about these same characters… 😅 so another extremely long book awaits。 Which I won’t be reading。 So mehhhh… I’m not sure I’d recommend this to anyone。 There’s some things that seem silly though。 Lara KNOWS her father is a shithead。 She knows he will kill her at the end of everything no matter if she succeeds or not， but she doesn’t think for one second that he could be lying to her about why she’s sent to be a spy？ After meeting her husband and seeing for herself what he does daily， she doesn’t even question her fathers motives until the proof is physically shown to her。 🤨 。。。more
